Jourdanton’s baseball team lost three of four games in its home round robin tournament.
“Defense is what killed us in the tournament, and that we did not have enough hits,” said Jourdanton head coach Tim Bertholf. “Our pitchers did alright. We played a couple of quality teams in Cornerstone Christian and Poth.”
The Indians won their first game 7-4 against North Hopkins on Feb. 28. Jourdanton trailed 2-1 after the second inning.
Shafer Glasscock hit a triple to lead off the bottom of the fourth and was sent to score after an errant throw landed in the Indians’ dugout. That sparked a six-run rally.
Brett Berg went 3-for- 3 with three RBIs. David Flores had a hit, two walks and two RBIs. Miguel Galindo walked and scored twice. Nolan Johnson went 2-for-3 and struck out nine batters in four innings.
Jourdanton lost the second game against Cornerstone Christian 10-2. Miguel Galindo and Sean Biscaino scored runs after drawing walks.
On March 2, Jourdanton lost twice against Poth. The Indians lost the first game 9-5. Samuel Guajardo went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Colin Borth went 2-for-2 with an RBI. The Indians lost the second game 10-4. Miguel Galindo singled and scored in the first inning. But Poth scored one in the second inning and three in the third. Berg hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third and the Indians added two runs to tie it in the fourth. Poth scored six in the top of the fifth.
