The Jourdanton Indians opened the book on 2020 with tournament hardware after winning the Boerne Geneva New Year’s Shoot Out over the weekend.
The Indians won the tournament by going 4-0 with wins over ranked opponents.
Jourdanton opened the tournament with a 53-15 win over Junction.
The Indians outscored Junction 14-0 in the second quarter to help seal the win.
Payton Gonzales led the way with 18 points for the Indians. Jacob Reyna finished with 11 points and Jarel Lilly had 10.
The Indians concluded the first day of the tournamet with a 60-36 win over the TAPPS 3A no. 2-ranked Austin Waldorf on Thursday.
Jourdanton outscored Waldorf 23-9 in the first quarter and 20-11 in the second to take a 43-20 lead into halftime.
Reyna paced the Indians with 10 points as the only Jourdanton player in double figures. Lilly had nine and Colton Schuchart had eight.
On the second day of the tournament, the Indians beat Holy Cross 55-34.
Jourdanton led 30-18 at halftime before outscoring Holy Cross 23-6 in the third quarter.
Gonzales made a big impact in the third game with a team-high 15 points. Lilly wasn’t far behind him with 13 points.
In the championship game, the Indians beat the host, Boerne Geneva 44-23 to claim the tournament title.
Jourdanton got off to a hot start, outscoring Geneva 17-0 in the opening quarter. From there, Jourdanton’s lead was only trimmed in the second quarter.
Gonzales had another 15-point game to lead the way for the Indians. Reyna had 13 points to his credit to help Jourdanton claim the tournament title.
Jourdanton (12-5) hosted Poth on Jan. 7 and travels to Karnes City on Jan. 10.
