Jourdanton’s Colton Schuchart and Josh Isaac double team a Pearsall player during the Indians’ 68-52 home win on Jan. 4.
Jourdanton (8-9) led Pearsall 23-9 after the first quarter and 36-23 at halftime. Jacob Reyna scored 14 of his team-leading 20 points in the first quarter. The Indians led 50-36 at the end of the third quarter.
“We’ve started off fast a lot. The problem is, in the second half, we haven’t always been the same way. That was something we were really pushing,” said Jourdanton head coach Truman Reagan.
Jarel Lilly scored 14 points.
Jourdanton lost 60-48 to John Paul II at home on Jan. 8 after beating the Guardians on Dec. 1 in their home tournament. This time, the Guardians adjusted to Jourdanton’s full-court press defense and avoided getting trapped near the baseline.
Jourdanton went on a 6-0 run late in the second quarter to enter halftime behind 32-25. In the third quarter, John Paul II went on an 11-0 run for a 43-27 lead before finishing the period ahead 46-34. Jourdanton was unable to get closer than 10 in the fourth.
Lilly had a team-high 12 points. Payton Gonzales added 10 points. Jacob Mendoza had seven points.
