The Trump Administration announced a policy on May 5, 2018 to separate parents and children attempting to enter the United States without proper documentation. It was ended on June 5, 2018. Although exact numbers are unknown, at least 2300 children were taken from their parents and put in different places with no record of that destination.
In a recent statement, Henry Cuellar said they were separated for illegal guardianship or safety concerns. The relatively few children he is referring to were taken before that policy was in place. Rep. Cuellar’s statement is very misleading.
From May 5, 2018 to June 20, 2018 the children were all taken from their parents for no reason other than to frighten and intimidate. People have come to America to seek asylum and a better life for hundreds of years. If the goal is to frighten and intimidate, perhaps the drug cartels would be a better target than babies!
