Hit and run results in two injured

Monday night at 7:21 p.m., Jourdanton Police were dispatched to Jourdanton Ave and Maple St. for the report of a pedestrian vs. vehicle accident.

When Officer Pierce Ruple and Cpl. Timothy Sawicki arrived, they found two injured individuals on the side of the road. No vehicle was in sight. EMS was immediately called as officers pieced together what happened to Damon Camacho, age 22, and Destiny Guerra, age 20.

Officers were told that a black or very dark colored Ford Expedition with chrome accents hit the pair from behind as they walked south on Jourdanton Ave. The vehicle paused briefly and then sped away toward Highway 97. As officers gathered debris at the crash scene, local law enforcement searched the area for the vehicle that fled.

EMS treated both victims on the scene and then transported them to separate hospitals. Guerra was treated and released late Monday night and as of Tuesday afternoon, Camacho remained hospitalized in serious condition.

Jourdanton Police are investigating all tips from the public, as well as the possibility that this may have been an intentional act. Chief Kaiser stated that JPD has also teamed up with the Texas Highway Patrol to reconstruct the accident scene and will use state resources and debris collected at the scene to identify the vehicle.

When located, the driver that left the scene could face charges that range from “Fail to Stop and Render Aid- Serious Bodily Injury”- 3rd degree felony to “Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon” 1st degree felony
