As the Pleasanton Express, on deadline, was completing layout of its Wednesday, January 9 edition word came that J. Taylor Brite had passed away.

J. Taylor Brite, 97, is well known as one of the most beloved citizens in Atascosa County and one of the most recognized public servants.

Brite was elected Atascosa County Attorney in 1950, taking office January 1, 1951. He was appointed district Attorney February 1960 and served as District Judge until July 1985. He then went on to serve as Senior District Judge, State of Texas, holding District Court by assignment only, all over the state of Texas. Brite served a total of 46 years in public service.

He was also a veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps.

J. Taylor’s wife Frances Calcote Brite passed away, Nov. 28, 2016 after 68 years of marriage.

He is survived by daughter Patricia Brite Taylor and husband Danny of Waco, sons Steve Brite and wife Jean of Pleasanton, Gary Brite of Phoenix, Tom Brite and wife DeAndra of San Antonio. Grandchildren: Chris Taylor, Matt Taylor, Jennifer Hissem, Amy Brinkerhoff, Emily Grecco, Kevin Brite, Robert Brite, Tara Brite, Taylor Brite, Alan Brite, Rachel Arevalo. Great-grandchildren: Ben Taylor, Annie Taylor, John Brinkerhoff, Will Brinkerhoff, Zachary Grecco, Mia Grecco, Liam Brite, Owen Brite, and Graham Brite and numerous nieces and nephews.
