This past Saturday we had a chance to celebrate with the family of Minnie and Maggie Rodriguez for their 50th wedding anniversary. Fifty years … what a milestone. I’ve not been to very many 50th wedding anniversary celebrations. I can probably count on one hand of those that I have attended, both large and low key.
This one was planned out so very well – from the beautiful Mass at St. Andrew Catholic Church to the gorgeous dinner reception and dance.
Those who attended experienced so much – there were antique cars, mariachis, dancers and a live band. The food was typical wedding fare. Not only was delicious carne guisada served, there were fruit cups, Mexican wedding cookies, empanadas, cake and the traditional menudo served around midnight.
I know that their children and siblings planned a long time to help make this happen. You could tell by the detail they all contributed.
I especially like reading how Minnie and Maggie met and how long they courted.
In these days and times, I don’t know if writing letters back and forth could keep a relationship alive. And doing this for over five years? I do believe couples back then were a lot more patient than those now.
The way I see it, what a wonderful way to honor their parents and loved ones. The whole family should be congratulated on a beautiful and fun evening!
Many more years of bliss to you both!
