Texas may not have passed a distracted driving bill just yet, but if motorists are heading to the Alamo City, beware of their new law which went into effect January 1.
Handheld cell phone use by drivers is now illegal in San Antonio.
Under the new San Antonio law, motorists are banned from holding the devices to make phone calls, text, use email, access the Internet, play games as well as “other use of the device” while driving or temporarily stopped in traffic – including a red light.
Under Texas law, drivers under the age of 18 can not use wireless communications devices. Also, cell phone use is prohibited during active school zone hours.
