In a recent consumer survey by Dunnhumby, H-E-B was named the top grocer surpassing its competitors of Trader Joe’s, Amazon and Costco.
Dunnhumby is a U.K.- based global research company who released their third annual Retailer Preference Index last Wednesday, which surveyed some 7,000 customers nationally and analyzed financial reports to rank the topperforming grocers in the nation.
This is the first time H-E-B has been named the top grocer in the history of it’s business.
“H-E-B proves that if you get the basics right and execute them well, you can have a strong value proposition,” said Jose Gomes, Dunnhumby’s managing director of North America.
H-E-B became the nation’s top grocer because of its “sustained focus and excellence on assortment relevance and private brand,” which has allowed the grocer to offer quality products at affordable prices, according to the report. The grocer’s strong performance and recent Houston expansion underscores how some regional grocery retailers such as Publix and ShopRite can cultivate a cult following and go toeto toe with national chains, the report said.
The report also named H-E-B the most recessionproof grocer nationally, because of its price perception, private label brand and promotional offerings.
