Commissioner’s Court approved the petition to place Atascosa County on the ballot to become a Tier 2 county. This was the final step to place a referendum to consider classifying Atascosa County as a Tier 2 county as it relates to municipal annexation as described in “S86” and place it on all Atascosa County Ballots in November 6, 2018 General Election.

Janice Ruple, Atascosa County Elections Administrator certified the petition drive as having enough legal signatures to be put on the ballot November 6. “This is a big deal because at this point and time San Antonio is restricted from annexing in Bexar County without a vote on annexation,” said Judge Bob Hurley. “However, they can come into Atascosa County and annex without any of the rules applying to them. That is why I publicly support voting yes and for the issue.”

There were numerous warriors with boots on the ground helping in this grassroots movement. The core team of Atascosa: Stop Forced Annexation consisted of Caroline George, Marie Levy, Linda Carter, Will Bates and Morris Cowley.

“Come November, we will have a say. If you vote, “said Marie Levy, organizer, Atascosa Stop Forced Annexation. “Thanks again to all Atascosa County for your support on this very important issue to free our land owners from forced annexation.”
