Recent Pleasanton graduate Tyler Gonzales will participate in a local all-star game for a second consecutive year.
Gonzales was selected to play in the Texas Select All- Star Showcase on June 17 at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium in San Antonio.
Gonzales was a true utility player for the Eagles last season, playing multiple positions, including third baseman, second baseman and outfielder.
The left-handed batter had a .288 batting average, racking up 19 hits and 12 RBIs in 25 games. Gonzales also had a .440 on-base percentage his senior year.
Gonzales had a .872 fielding percentage on the way to earning first-team all-district honors. He helped Pleasanton win a share of the District 30-4 championship. The Eagles also advanced to the area round of the playoffs after defeating Lytle.
The annual showcase game is designed to give local players a chance to play in front of college coaches with hopes of pursuing a career at the next level.
The event is paid for by local small businesses, organizers said.
