Nathaniel Gonzales, an outstanding student from Pleasanton High School, is the 2020 recipient of the Norman F. Porter, Sr. Memorial Scholarship. He plans to attend Texas A&M this fall, majoring in law. His ultimate goal is to become a prosecutor and then a district judge. Congratulations, Nathaniel.
The Norman F. Porter, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was created in 2015 to honor a man who spent his life as an educator, coach and school administrator. After retirement, Mr. Porter dedicated his time to the history of Atascosa County, serving as Chairman of the Historical Commission and authoring an in-depth historical account of county history through 1912.
The $1,500 scholarship is given by the Atascosa County Historical Society, the non-profit arm of the Atascosa County Historical Commission, through private donation and fund-raising efforts. Any Atascosa County high school senior can apply and must submit a well-sourced, local historical essay.
