Gilberto Salazar, of Devine, passed away Friday October 21, 2016 at the age of 86.
He was born April 18, 1930 in Jourdanton to Francisco and Maria (Orosco) Salazar.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired after 37 years from working civil service at Kelly Air Force Base.
Gilberto is survived by his sons; Gilbert and wife Sharmon of Devine, Maurice and wife Antoinette, Greg and wife Sara, both of San Antonio; daughters, Georgina and husband Jesse Lopez, Melinda and husband Sam Macias, Gilda Salazar and Melida Salazar all of San Antonio; sisters, Emilia Martinez of Jourdanton, Evangelina Allen and Jovita Rugen both of San Antonio; grandchildren, Matthew Salazar, Marc Macias, Jonathan Lopez, George Martinez Jr., Stephen Macias, Elise Lopez, Christopher Martinez, Lori Salazar, Samuel Macias Jr., Sarah Arellano, Jacob Salazar, Irene Arellano, Francisco Salazar; great-grandchildren, Marcus Alfaro II, Eli Martinez, Aria Martinez, Cameron Millhouse, and Carson Martinez.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Minerva (Cruz) Salazar; parents, Francisco and Maria Salazar; brothers, Esteban and Octaviano Salazar and sister, Rose Salazar.
Visitation will be held Wednesday October 26, 2016 from 2 – 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine.
Mass will be celebrated Thursday October 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Devine, with interment to follow at the Salazar Cemetery in Jourdanton. A reception will follow interment at the St. Josephs Parish Hall.
