Get active now on legislative issues

Agriculture has a lot at stake as the new legislature dawns in January, and Atascosa County farmers and ranchers need to get active now, said Pete Pawelek, president of the Atascosa County Farm Bureau.

“School financing, the state’s budget and water will be huge issues,” Pete Pawelek said. “Each one has huge implications for Atascosa County agriculture. It is important farmers and ranchers be active to ensure our voices are heard.”

President Pete Pawelek said the recent election means there will be a lot of new faces in Austin. In many cases, those newlyelected officials have little understanding of agriculture.

“It’s our job to make sure they understand the importance of agriculture in the local and state economy,” President Pete Pawelek said. “It is very important you develop relationships with the elected officials who represent you on the local, state and national levels.”
