From Red Kettles to camp – your support is Doing the Most Good

Don’t Miss Summer Camp! July 9-14 registration has begun

The Salvation Army in Pleasanton relies on the support of the community to enable the organization to live out its brand promise of Doing The Most Good. Donations generously given during the familiar Red Kettle Campaign at Christmastime provide essential funding for programs that make a difference to individuals and families all year-round.

Across the vast miles of Texas faithful volunteers administer Salvation Army assistance that covers every zip code. Did you know that right here in Pleasanton The Salvation Army provides a range of services including thrift store, accepting donations, camp bible study, vouchers, etc.

This emergency assistance, often a last resort for those in need, can be the lifeline that keeps the lights on for a family falling behind with their utility bills, the rent payment that avoids eviction for an elderly senior, or the food voucher that puts food on the table for a single mother struggling to make ends meet. Another life-changing Salvation Army program provides the amazing opportunity for children from Pleasanton (Atascosa County) to attend summer camp. Camp Hoblitzelle, located about 45 minutes southwest of Dallas in Midlothian, is owned and operated by The Salvation Army. Each summer thousands of excited young people from around Texas drive through the gates of the camp. Under the watchful care of a trained and enthusiastic staff the campers experience the wonder of the great outdoors and have the chance to make new friends, try new activities, and learn about Jesus.

The daily camp schedule includes three meals, recreation, craft classes, bible study and worship, horse riding, ropes course, and of course everyone’s favorite, the swimming pool.

“A week at camp is something that every child should experience,” said Gloria Day, Service center Manager, “It may be the only time they ride a horse, feed a longhorn or go fishing.

Through the generosity of donors right here in our community The Salvation Army can provide a fun-filled week at camp for many kids.” The five-day camp, including transportation, is provided free of charge for children age between 8-12. You are invited to learn more about The Salvation Army Camp Hoblitzelle and how you can register your children for this wonderful opportunity. Camp sign-up and registration has begun.
