Friday Volleyball: McClaugherty, Sherrer power Cowgirls to four-set winFree Access

The McMullen County Cowgirls picked up a four-set win over Benavides (25-22, 25-14, 25-14, 23-25, 25-8) on Friday thanks to a big day from senior hitter Madison Sherrer and senior setter Caroline McClaugherty.

Sherrer finished with a team-high 15 kills in the win to go along with three digs and a block. But it was her fellow senior who stole the show.

McClaugherty finished with a triple-double after tallying 11 kills, 13 assists and 10 digs in the win.

Chloe Taylor finished with 23 digs on the defensive side, followed by Alexis Ortiz with 22. Taber Garcia had 14 digs to help the defensive effort for the Cowgirls.

McMullen (20-14, 9-2) will host Ben Bolt on Tuesday.

Lady Aggies snag win at Brooks Academy

A stellar day for Clarissa Benavides helped the Poteet Lady Aggies to a win over Brooks Academy in five sets on Friday (25-10, 24-26, 20-25, 25-22, 15-9).

Benavides picked up a double-double after tallying team-highs of 13 kills and 30 assists to go with three aces. Stevani Monreal tied her in the ace category and led the team with 11 digs. Kylie Garcia had four aces in the win.

Brooke Rasmussen picked up 12 kills in the win for the Lady Aggies.

Emily Ramos also found double figures with 15 assists.

Poteet hosts Gonzales on Tuesday.

Trojanettes fall in three to Freer

The Charlotte Trojanettes fell in three sets to District 31-2A leader Freer on Friday (8-25, 12-25, 12-25).

The Trojanettes were held in check with Jessalyn Sanchez recording two kills and Lucy Benavidez recording one. Julissa Cantu picked up assists on two of those three kills.

Benavidez also picked up a team-high four digs in the loss. Mia Campos had the Trojanettes’ only block of the match.

Charlotte (4-7 in 31-2A) will look to even the season series with Agua Dulce on Tuesday and force a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Jourdanton fell in four sets to Cotulla for their first district loss of the season. The Squaws (12-17, 6-1) still sit in first in 30-3A by one game over Dilley and Lytle.
