The Jourdanton Squaws moved one win away from a second consecutive district title with a sweep of the Lytle Lady Pirates (25-12, 25-15, 25-12) on Friday.

The win came on the heels of a stellar performance by Sidney Morneau, who tallied 11 kills, three blocks and a pair of aces.

That line wouldn’t have come for the outside hitter, had it not been for the 30 assists by senior setter Katlyn Polasek, who posted a season-high mark against Natalia on Sept. 20.

Emma Roach had a team-high 10 digs in the win with Mia Lopez close behind with eight.

Shyanne Bauerle was second on the team with nine kills.

Jourdanton (14-17, 8-1) will look to clinch the outright title on Tuesday at home against Dilley (7-2 in 30-3A).

Pleasanton sweeps Gonzales

The Pleasanton Lady Eagles secured at least a tie for third place on Friday behind a sweep of Gonzales (27-25, 25-11, 25-16), their third-straight win.

Freshman Sadie McAda helped the Lady Eagles cause with a double-double of 21 kills and 16 digs. Fellow freshman Victoria Urbanczyk was not far from her own double-double with six kills and a team-high 21 assists. She also tallies four blocks with an ace as well.

Senior Madeline Keylich led the way defensively with 18 digs. Tess Underbrink picked up 11 assists for the Lady Eagles.

Brianna Garcia had a team-high six blocks in the win, with Skylar Schimelfenning also picking up four blocks of her own.

Pleasanton (18-22, 6-5) will close out the regular season at home on Tuesday against no. 3-ranked La Vernia (41-5, 11-0).

McMullen tackles Agua Dulce in four sets

The McMullen County Cowgirls picked up a four-set win on Saturday over Agua Dulce (25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-10)

Madison Sherrer’s 16 kills and Caroline McClaugherty’s 10 helped power the way for McMullen’s offense. Sherrer also had three aces and five blocks in the match. McClaugherty would pick up a double-double with 20 assists as well. It’s her second double-double of the season.

Fellow senior Brenda Beyer led the way in assists with 22.

Defensively, the Cowgirls put in a lot of work with five players recording double-digit digs. Leading the way was Alexis Ortiz with 20. Sophomore Taber Garcia posted 17. In total, the Cowgirls had 101 digs in the match.

McMullen (22-14, 11-2) will look to close out the regular season on a high note when they host Bruni on Tuesday.

Charlotte strengthens playoff hopes in win over Three Rivers

The Charlotte Trojanettes helped their playoff hopes on Friday with a five-set win over Three Rivers (17-25, 25-16, 25-19, 10-25, 17-5).

Jessalyn Sanchez was busy on both sides with team-highs of five kills and 17 digs for the Trojanettes. Mercedes Sanchez posted five digs and four assists to help the Trojanettes to the win.

Lucy Benavidez had a pair of blocks while Jessalyn Sanchez and Mia Campos each had one to their credit.

Charlotte (5-8 in 31-2A) needs a win at Benavides on Tuesday and another Agua Dulce loss to have a shot at making the playoffs.
