Forgery and firearms


The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a San Antonio man and charged him with 8 counts of forgery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On August 22, Deputy Sheriff Peter Allen was dispatched to the Super Stop on Highway 16, seven miles north of Poteet. The store owner pointed out a suspect who was attempting to cash counterfeit checks. The suspect was in possession of several counterfeit checks and was subsequently arrested. Deputy Allen also recovered two counterfeit twenty dollar bills from the suspect.

The suspect was identified as Michael N. Rodriguez, age 42 of San Antonio. Deputy Allen also located a double barrel .12 guage shotgun in Rodriguez’s vehicle. Rodriguez was determined to be a convicted felon. He was charged with 8 counts of Forgery along with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Bond on Rodriguez was set at $90,000 by J.P. Pct. 1 Michael Pascarella.

Rodriguez remains in the Atascosa County Jail in lieu of bond according to Sheriff David Soward.
