Dense fog may have been a contributing factor to a double fatality wreck on Hwy. 16 South near FM 140 on November 1 near Tilden and Christine. The early morning crash happened when the southbound Chevrolet pickup attempted to pass another vehicle. They struck a northbound Ford F-350 head-on. A third vehicle, traveling south, also collided into the two pickups.

According to DPS spokesman Trooper Jason Reyes, both the driver, Donald Griggs, 40, of Magnolia and a backseat passenger Hector Gonzalez, 57, of Houston were dead at the scene. Two more passengers from the Chevrolet pickup and the drivers of the other vehicles were taken to South Texas Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
