Congratulations to the 2008-2009 Pleasanton Pacesetters who attended the MA Regional Dance Competition in Boerne. The pacesetters performed a routine choreographed by Xavier Garcia and received 271 points out of a possible 300 points. Starting off from Edinburg in the Rio Grande Valley, a group of U.S. military veterans came marching through Pleasanton on their way to Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio. The group of about 25 vets had planned a rally at the VA facility to bring awareness to the difficulties veterans have in getting medical care.

Kenneth Ray Cordova II was all smiles on Sunday when he participated in a baby pageant. He was awarded four trophies, winning in the following categories: Personality Kid, Dimpled Darling, 1st Place in the beauty contest and King in the 2-year old Division. Kenny is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sr. and Claudia Cordova of Pleasanton. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Pedro Gaytan and Mr. and Mrs. Greg Cordova. Kenny would like to say thank you to all who attended his coronation and a special thanks to Vickie Salinas for helping to design and make the cape and gown.

A Berry Happy Occasion- Getting in the spirit for the 42nd Annual Poteet Strawberry Festival scheduled for April 7-9 are members of the royal court. From left are Prince Shane Griffin, King Xavier Zamora, Queen Becky Sapp and Princess Larissa Lee. Beautiful red strawberries are now being harvested for the celebration commemorating Poteet’s being the ‘Strawberry Capital of Texas.

Shoebox Float Contest- Denise Franklin, 12, and her mom, Melinda Franklin, display the shoebox float Denise will enter in a new Strawberry Festival contest this year. Mrs. Franklin is coordinating the contest which is open to all Atascosa County elementary and junior high school students.

Only Pleasanton track member to win a first place was Deborah Brown who leaped 35 ft., 5 inches to win the triple jump. Here she is on the winner’s stand alongside a girl from Carrizo Springs, left, and New Braunfels.

Peanut meeting a success- Atascosa County Peanut Growers held another successful annual meeting at the Showbarn Wednesday. Pictured is a part of the large crowd hearing Mike Divin, treasurer, give his annual report.

The first variety talent show heralded the 12th Annual Poteet Strawberry Festival at the Poteet gym Friday night, March 20, and opened the Festival season officially.
