Strawberry Festival Queen Sashaun Korzekwa and King “Poteet Lil” Adrian Garza were honored Saturday as the Poteet Strawberry Festival Association held its coronation. The two will reign over the 1999 52nd Annual Poteet Strawberry Festival, April 9-11.

Michael Ortiz (second from left) has just handed the baton to Tyrone Charles during the preliminaries of the 400-meter relay at Clemens. Charles had a good meet Saturday by winning the triple jump and the long jump and setting school records in each event.

Congratulations to six Pleasanton EMS members who have completed training and received state certification. Kneeling in front is Raul Ramos who is certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), an advanced level. Standing are five EMS members who have been certified as Emergency Care Attendants (ECA). They are, from left, Pat Henson, Mary Allen, Steve Bennight, Walter Martinez and Rupert Martinez.

Pleasanton’s Angie Sanchez and Steven Thorne were all smiles after placing high in a tennis meet at Sabinal last week. Sanchez was a runner up in singles competition and Thorne won the boys’ singles title.

Pleasanton Elementary Principal Arth Whitley is pictured with just some of the many kindergarten children who visited his home last week to help feed the newborn calf. All the children were delighted with the little calf and Whitley stated that for many of the children it was the first time they had been around such a small animal.

Pleasanton’s Cowboy Homecoming court has just won their second trophy in parade competition since the cowboy has float was remodeled. The float rode in the La Salle County Fair at Cotulla and were rewarded with this first place trophy in the out of town non-commercial division if the parade. Left to right are Gayla Ashton, Kathleen Burdett, Loveta Arguijo, Joyce Seay and Barbara Shiver.

Miss Karla Pfeil was the first place winner in the PHS science fair’s chemistry division as science students put their talents on display last weekend. Here’s Karla with her display based on the theme of carbon dioxide production in animals. CHemists can be pretty, can’t they?

At the recent San Antonio Livestock Show and Exposition Pleasanton furnished the three hostesses for Gulf Coast Country Day. They appeared on KONO-TV plus five San Antonio radio stations during the day. Left to right, front row, Ida Mae Henry, Shirley Anderson, Frankie Henry.
