Performers during the presentation of the Christmas Village on December 5-7 give crowds of visitors an insight into the birth of Jesus Christ in a stable near Jerusalem more than two thousand years ago. The pictures cast members include Mary (Katie Elliot of Jourdanton), Joseph (Joseph Alexander of Pleasanton) and Shepherds (from left – Hayden Rush of Pleasanton, Ford Cantu and Trevor Simmons, both from Poteet.)

Pleasanton 8th grader Elizabeth Davidson, age 13, learns how to shear her prize-winning goat in preparation for the Atascosa Junior Livestock Show in mid January. Elizabeth is a member of the Leming-Verdi 4H Club and the daughter of Jennifer and David Davidson pf Pleasanton. She, along with her goat “Prancer,” have won several top awards in area prospect shows. Elizabeth has high hopes of winning at the Atascosa Junior Livestock Show.

These four boxers, all members of the Atascosa Boxing Club, competed in the state Silver Gloves Championships and three of them were crowned state championships and the other was a runnerup. In front, left to right, are Martin Cantu and Vincent Garza and in the back are Trey Evans and Jay Sanchez.

The Poteet Agates (in white tops) played tough defense against the Stockdale Lady Brahmas in the Poteet “Roundball Roundup” Basketball Tournament but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Brahmas, 42-28. The Brahmas advanced to the tournament finals and lost to Moulton, 50-35. Agates in the photo are #22 Nicole Ramos and tying up the ball are Jennifer Arenas (center) and Vanessa Roldan.

Christian Assistance Ministry gathered last Tuesday at St. Andrew’s Hall in Pleasanton to do their part in helping families in the area who are in need of food and toys for Christmas. Left to right are Angie Sanchez, Lindsay Watts, Caressa Inman at the end of the table, Josie Sanchez and Kimberley Chancellor.

D. & B. Kempo Karate announces the promotion of rank to JoJo Velasquez to Purple Belt and Robert Bazan to 1st Degree Black Belt. JoJo is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Velasquez of Pleasanton. he started training in Martial Arts in 1986 at the age of 6. Robert Bazan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Bazan of Pleasanton. Robert has been training in Martial Arts under David and Berna Pena since May 1983 and has obtained his Belt in 5 1/2 years. Cindy Pena (left) and Cindy Scheidt force a turnover in the Pleasanton-Somerset Junior Varsity game played last Friday. Eaglettes won 40-30.
