Murphy sisters 1st place winners at Fair – Kendra and Katie Murphy, 10-year old daughters of Gary and Becky Murphy of Jourdanton, each placed 1st place in their divisions at this year’s Atascosa County Fair. Kendra, left, received a blue ribbon for her pastel in the elementary advanced. Katie, right, received her blue ribbon in the elementary advanced for her oil painting. Katie and Kendra’s instructor is Laquita Lawhon of Pleasanton.

Christmas Carolers – ¬†Singing songs of joy, these caroling children entertained recently at All Saint’s Episcopal Church’s St. Nicholas Day turkey dinner.

New Club at Pleasanton Junior High – The Pleasanton Junior High has a new club on its campus this year. It is the Pleasanton Chapter of the Junior Historians. This group of 6th, 7th, 8th graders is interested in learning more about their state’s history and especially the local county’s history.

50 years ago

Cowboy Ben – Dr. Ben Parker, at right, helps Henry Shearrer, Jr. as he hoists eight-foot bronze statue of the cowboy into place atop concrete its base in front of city hall. Dr. and Mrs. Parker are donating the statue to the city- “the Birthplace of the Cowboy. Statue has retained some of the casting discolorations” which will wear off in a few months.
