Filings slow for May city, school elections





The first day to file for municipal and school offices was just two weeks ago on January 30 and most of the incumbents have filed so far. The elections will take place in Poteet and Pleasanton on May 11, 2013. Jourdanton, Charlotte and Christine will hold their city and school elections in November.

Deadline to file for these offices is Friday, March 1, 2013.

City of Pleasanton

Pleasanton City Councilmembers who have already filed are District 4, J.R. Gallegos (incumbent); District 5, Roger G. Garza (incumbent) and District 6 – Jeanne B. Israel (incumbent).

No one has filed for the mayor’s position (currently held by Clint Powell) as of Tuesday, February 12.

Pleasanton ISD

Those who have filed in the Pleasanton Independent School District are District 1, Blasa F. Chapa (incumbent) and District 3, Frank A. “Butch” Tudyk, Jr. (incumbent).

Clinton Henson, District 6 Board member has not filed, nor has he drawn an opponent.

City of Poteet

So far, Denise Sanchez, incumbent Place 5 Alderman has filed for re-election. The current Mayor Raul Ybarra has not filed, but current Place 4 Alderman Larry Cantu has filed for the Mayor’s position.

Poteet ISD

Both incumbents for Place 6 Louis Vasquez and Place 7 David Herrera, Jr have filed for the school trustee race.

Election Guide

Candidates are encouraged to participate in the Pleasanton Express Election Guide. This free guide will be published on April 17, 2013 in time for the city and school elections.

The deadline is Thursday, March 28 and candidates are asked to send in their statement (250 word limit) and a photo to sbrown@pleasantonexpress.com
