Ernest Benavides Jr.

Ernest R. Benavides, Jr., born on January 20, 1969, died peacefully surrounded by his family on April 26, 2017.

Ernest was a 1987 graduate of Jourdanton High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1989 where he found brotherhood in the 82nd Airborne and was assigned as a combat medic. He was deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm to the Persian Gulf from 1990 to 1991. Many respected and admired his love for his country and military family. When he was honorably discharged, Ernest continued his protection of his country and began his career as a police officer with the Temple Police Department, Fair Oaks Ranch, Pearsall and Southside ISD.

  1. married his high school sweetheart, Tracy on October 12, 1991. They had three beautiful children that he was immensely proud of. Ernest loved his wife and children. Hobbies included watching baseball, the Dallas Cowboys and the UT Longhorns with his son, gunsmithing and spending time at the gun range.

Ernest is survived by his devoted wife Tracy Benavides, children; Marissa Rene, Ernest James, Megan Yvette and grandson Carter James Graham. Father, Ernest Benavides, Sr., Brother and Sisters; Edward (Christine), Yolanda, Eric, Edmund, Yvette (John) Hotchkin and Joey.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Yolanda G. Benavides.
