Last week we featured three more amazing women, Sarah Segura, Betty Caballero and Lucia S. Yanas. This last week we are featuring two more, Veronica Hernandez and Elsa Colunga. What a privilege it has been to honor these women. Jessica Machado, our Webmaster, has been gathering authentic recipes and is sharing them this week as well. We hope you have enjoyed this series and also hope that you join the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce next Saturday to celebrate Market Day on October 20.
Officers’ Ambush It is hard to believe that it has been 13 years since three of our law enforcement officers lost their lives in an ambush which happened off of Corgey Road on October 12, 1999. Killed were Atascosa County Sheriff’s Deputies Thomas Orville Monse, Jr., Mark Louis Stephenson, and DPS Trooper Terry Wayner Miller. Please see page 12A for a special tribute page, including a poem written by Will Henry Meyer on the day it happened.
Craft Show A craft show will be held at the Pleasanton Riverpark Pavilion #3 (East Hunt and Colwell St.) on Saturday, October 13 from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Free admission for all.
