Eagles vs Indians, again

This Friday is the big Pleasanton vs. Jourdanton matchup. As you have read (and will read) in our sports pages’ articles, these two teams haven’t played football against each other since 1961.

Our football preview special section even featured the two athletic directors, JISD’s Darrell Andrus and PISD’s Tab Dumont on it’s Braggin’ Rights cover.

The adjoining cities’ chiefs of police have also entered the competition – so to speak.

Pleasanton Chief of Police Ronald Sanchez and Jourdanton Chief of Police Eric Kaiser have a friendly wager. The losing chief will be wearing the winning teams football jersey come Monday morning, September 12.

While this is a non-district game and has no bearing on either team’s playoff bids, let’s have fun with it. Let’s fill the stadium with good natured cheers and sportsmanlike behavior – on and off the field.

The Highway 97 Showdown -as it’s been dubbed – will take place at Jourdanton’s brand new stadium this Friday, September 9. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

The pep rally for Jourdanton will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Pleasanton’s pep rally will be held on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

It has been 55 years since the teams last met. This could become an annual event. Let’s get out there and support our teams.

The way I see it, I don’t want to sound like a broken record – but everyone there should be excited about this game.

Be a real fanatic – stand up and yell, wear your team’s colors, get there early to claim your spot, sing along and show these kids that their efforts are appreciated – football players, trainers, cheerleaders, band members, team dancers and flag corps.

Here’s to a great game with no injuries!

Go Eagles! Go Indians!
