Eagles triumphant vs. SA Hawkins in district

Pleasanton defeated San Antonio Hawkins 74-66 after four Eagles finished in double figures last week at home.

“I thought it was really important for our team to go into the playoffs with a win,” Pleasanton head coach Lance Cain said.

“I always knew we had multiple players able to score we just had to put it together for a night.”

Eric Del Toro led the Eagles with 21 points while Rudy Calderon added 18 in the win.

Jason Mills scored 13 to help Pleasanton and Zack Smith finished with 10 points.

Both teams were tied at 15 apiece after the opening period, but Hawkins separated itself in the second.

The Eagles trailed by four (34-30) at halftime.

However, Pleasanton’s defense stepped up while holding Hawkins to 11 points in the third.

Offensively, the Eagles outscored their opponents 23-11 to take their first lead of the game.

In the final period Hawkins kept up with Pleasanton as both schools scored 21 points.

But it wasn’t enough for Hawkins in the end as the Eagles finished their District 28-3A season 4-6 overall.

Pleasanton qualified for the playoffs and played Fredericksburg last night in San Antonio.
