Pleasanton’s boys soccer team lost to La Vernia 3-2 in shocking fashion on March 8.

“They played really well and attacked,” Pleasanton head coach Alex Hernandez said of his players.

The Eagles (7-13-1, 1-4 District 4A-29) led 2-1 at halftime. La Vernia scored a goal to tie it with 15 minutes left. Pleasanton blocked a penalty kick with its wall of defenders with 2:55 left. However, La Vernia put a penalty kick in the net with 1:58 left. Soon thereafter, Pleasanton rushed on the attack, landing the ball in the goal with 1:15 left, but it was disallowed with an offside penalty.

That was the second one-goal loss for the Eagles in their past three games.

Pleasanton is about a week away from its final regular-season game on March 19 at Gonzales (18- 1-1, 5-0 District 4A-29). The Eagles are tied with Yoakum for third in district.
