Pleasanton’s softball team secured its place in the playoffs and now is working to ensure its third place spot.
The Eagles (13-9, 6-4 District 4A-30) knocked off Brooks Academy 16-0 on April 5, scoring 10 in the first inning and six in the second. Messiah San Miguel went 2-for-2 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Chloe Bryant went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Dominique Owens went 2-for-3 with a triple. Pleasanton head coach Ronda Savage said she hopes to have the team cut out errors before the finale at La Vernia on April 16.
“We had a couple of errors that are correctable,” said Savage.
In non-district action against St. Anthony on April 2, Taylor Bryant drove in her older sister, Chloe, for the winning run in the 5-4 victory. Pleasanton had scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth for a 4-1 lead, but St. Anthony scored in each of the last three innings to tie it.
Madison McDonald went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Pleasanton will try to maintain its one-game lead ahead of Cuero. The Eagles host sixth-place Gonzales for senior night on April 12 before a test at second-place La Vernia. If Pleasanton and Cuero both win the last two games, that would put the Eagles, Gobblers and Bears in a three-way tie for second place. Savage said that could give a chance for a better playoff matchup.
“There’s a big talent difference between the number one and two teams and three and four in [District 4A-29],” Savage said.
