On Aug. 31, the Pleasanton, Jourdanton and Poteet mayors made a friendly wager betting on their respective high school football teams to win against each other. The wager? The losing team’s mayor would have to wear the winning team’s jersey at the next city council meeting. As a result of the Eagles’ 16-4 loss against the Aggies on Sept. 4, Pleasanton Mayor Travis Hall wore a Poteet Aggies jersey during the Sept. 17 Pleasanton City Council meeting. In a show of good sportsmanship, he also presented Poteet Mayor Willie Leal Jr. with a “Mayors’ Bowl” football with the date and score of the matchup. Jourdanton Mayor Robert Williams was also present to make sure Mayor Hall held up his end of the deal as Mayor Hall will have to wear a Jourdanton Indians jersey at the Oct. 1 Pleasanton City Council meeting as a result of Pleasanton’s loss to Jourdanton on Sept. 11.
