Eagle Band wins $5,000

The Mighty Eagle Band had some very dexterous and persistent fans this season. By texting Band5 each day, the Thursday Night Lights Band Favorite contest winner was Pleasanton High School with their votes numbering 26,091 (39 percent of the total votes received) Coming in as a close second was East Central. They received 22,067 or 33 percent. The remaining 17 schools’ total votes were 18,012.

Sponsored by KMYS (KABB/Fox29/CW35) and Jefferson Bank, the contest involved 19 schools in their viewing area. Each week, the bands from the competing high schools were featured during half-time. Viewers were prompted to text the word “BAND” and the corresponding school’s band code.

The official announcement was made on Thursday morning during the news program on Fox29. Anchors Ernie Zuniga and Monica Taylor along with Betsy Baker, Vice President of Marketing for Jefferson Bank presented a ceremonial check to Pleasanton High School Principal Dr. Matthew Mann. The PHS Eagle Drum Line, Cheerleaders and Volleyball team were also featured during the segment breaks.

Dr. Mann said that the funds would most likely be used for new band uniforms.
