On March 13, 2019, officers of the Pleasanton Police Department received a report from the Veterans of Foreign Wars State Assistant Adjutant stating there was over $10,000 that was misused by the Pleasanton VFW Post #12162.
A detailed report provided by the State Assistant Adjutant listed 45-year-old Jourdanton resident Steve Mueller (Pleasanton VFW Post Commander), and 50-year-old Jourdanton resident Stephanie Pino (Pleasanton VFW Post Adjutant/
Quartermaster) as embezzling money from the Veterans of Foreign Wars for their personal benefit and gain.
Detectives of the Pleasanton
Police Department reviewed the report and spoke with witnesses, and in conclusion, found Prob- able Cause to believe that Mueller and Pino committed the offense of Misapplication of Fiduciary Funds $2,500 or more but less than $30,000, a State Jail Felony.
Warrants were issued for the arrest of both Steve Mueller and Stephanie Pino, and both were taken into custody on July 10, 2019 and transported to the Atascosa County Jail for booking.
As a reminder all defendants are innocent until proven guilty.
PUBLISHER’S NOTE: The Pleasanton Express met with the Pleasanton Police Department detectives to hear about the charges filed against Stephanie Pino and Steve Mueller. Subsequent to that meeting, the Pleasanton Express sent an email to Stephanie Pino and spoke to her asking if either she or Mueller supplied the Pleasanton Police Department with the Pleasanton VFW Post ledger and/or the Pleasanton VFW Post’s meeting minutes that showed expenditures had been approved prior to spending as is required by the National VFW by-laws. Ms. Pino responded saying that “No one would let her give an official statement.”
