Drive-Thru Resource Event in Poteet SaturdayFree Access

Head out to the Poteet Strawberry Festival Grounds this Saturday, Nov. 7 for the first ever Drive-Thru Resource Event sponsored by the City of Poteet. The two-hour event will last from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and gives Atascosa County residents the chance to learn more about the many FREE resources locally available to them.

The event is drive-thru style so as to practice social distancing.

“We’ve been planning this event since before COVID 19 and haven’t been able to do it. However, we just don’t think it’s fair to not give people this chance to know what is available to them for free, especially during the pandemic. It’s more important now than ever,” said Shawnene Heather, City of Poteet Events Coordinator. “Many people don’t know what’s available to them or that they can even qualify for a lot of these resources.”

So far, 10-plus local organizations including AACOG, CCSCT, Texas Workforce Commission, Endeavor, Atascosa County Veterans Service Office and Camino Real will have booths set up along the PSF Grounds ready to pass out brochures full of information about resources their organizations offer.

The event is completely free to the public and costs nothing to get information from any of the organizations set up along the grounds. People will enter at the main gate on Hwy. 16 in their vehicles and drive through the grounds. Organizations will have representatives, who will be wearing masks, come straight to your window to hand out brochures. You don’t even have to get out of your vehicle!

“We encourage everyone to take advantage of this great opportunity and get to know what’s available to you,” said Heather. “Nobody is selling anything out there and you don’t have to get out of your car. It takes just a few minutes to drive through and grab some very helpful information you might need.”

Also participating in the event on Saturday is People Ready, a company looking to hire 300+ employees in the Pearsall area.
