Dr. Arthur Earl Erwin, 64, of Midland passed away at his home on July 4, 2013. He was born on November 1, 1948 to Kathryn Kuykendall Erwin and Edgar Erwin Sr. in Corpus Christi.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree in 1971 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1972 from Texas A&M University. He practiced medicine for 41 years, his final 18 years at Tall City Veterinary Hospital in Midland. Earl remained sober and served in Alcoholics Anonymous for the last 27 years. He was a faithful member of Midland Bible Church and taught Sunday School and a Thursday morning Bible Study. He was devoted to his family and especially proud of his grandchildren who called him “Papa.”
Earl is survived by his wife, Marcie Erwin of Midland; three sons, Edgar Erwin and wife Melissa of El Campo; Joseph Erwin and fiancé Staci Gold of El Campo; and Kevin Erwin of Pleasanton; three daughters, Mandy Rodriguez and husband Juan of Midland; Samantha Braden and husband Christopher of Hope Hills, North Carolina; and Shanna McGuire and husband Alan of Quantico, Virginia; brother, Edgar Erwin Jr. and wife Marilynn of Jourdanton; niece, Kathryn Erwin of Jourdanton; nephew, Ryan Erwin of Austin; step-mother, Evelyn Erwin of Pleasanton and step-brother Darrell Richter of Jourdanton, and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-sister, Wanda Johnson.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Midland Bible Church, 5900 Whitman Dr. Midland, TX 79705. Pastor Mark Rae and Pastor Vince Loftis officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Boyd, Mark Campbell, Dave Daupert, Jeff Haile, Fred Hemmingson, Jim Hughes, Hal Kuykendall and Reis Ritz.
