DOROTHY SMITH




 

 

Dorothy Ann Cooper Smith, age 86, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 22, 2015. Born on June 14, 1928 in Oklahoma City, Dorothy pursued life with vigor. Working as a dietician following graduation from Texas Women’s University, she met the love of her life, Walter Smith. Walter and Dorothy were married on September 7, 1954 and raised their children while working side by side on Stella Ranch, Sun Valley Ranch and H.R. Smith Ranch. In retirement, she was an Elder and Deacon at Northminster Presbyterian Church in San Antonio and volunteered in local hospitals and for hospice.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Ewing Smith; daughter in law, Jackie Smith; grandchildren, Chris Condit and Jimmie Clay Smith and nephew Jeff Cooper. Dorothy is survived by her brother, Tom Cooper; children, Butch Smith of Zapata, Sissy Starling of Beeville, Gayle Gammon of Nashville, AR, Carl Smith and wife Louise of Ganado and Kirk Smith and wife Jane of Floresville; sister-in-law, Gabriel Smith; five nephews; one niece, ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 25 at 2 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, with visitation being held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will follow at H. R. Smith Ranch at 3165 FM 1099 in Peggy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to the charity of ones choice.
