Doris Alma Pfeil, 72, of Pleasanton, TX passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by family on Thursday, January 4, 2018.
Doris was born in Shiner, TX on November 15, 1946; the youngest child of Willie and Alma (Flessner) Wieting. She and her family relocated to Houston, TX when she was a young child, but she continued to maintain strong ties to her hometown, with many a weekend spent “down in the country” attending dances and sharing time with her family and friends.
Doris married Richard Pfeil on June 11, 1965 in Vallejo, CA and they remained married for the next 48 and a half years. Richard was NAVY; and so the young family relocated as stationed until 1972 when they settled in Houston, TX. In 1984 a job opportunity took Doris, Richard and their daughters to San Diego, CA. Doris worked as a Property Manager for a large management firm until 1988, when Richard’s job took them back to Houston, TX where Doris worked as a Bookkeeper and Manager until her retirement.
After Doris and Richard retired in 2009 they became VIP cruisers on the Carnival Cruise Lines, and enjoyed numerous leisure cruises with Doris’ sister and brother in law, Wilma and Edgar Ducho. Doris absolutely loved going on cruises with them, and told many stories about the wonderful adventures they had while cruising together.
Doris was a feisty and confident individual, who loved strongly and made sure that those receiving her love felt it. Her attitude and personality shaped three generations of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren into strong, independent, and capable people. Friends were always treated as family, and she treasured her family just as we treasured her. She enjoyed shopping (especially for shoes!), she loved playing Black Jack and Texas Hold ‘Em, and was a dedicated Houston Astros fan that rarely missed a game.
Doris is preceded in Death by her husband, Richard Allen Pfeil and her son, Darren James Pfeil; and by her parents, Willie and Alma Wieting as well as her brother Henry Wieting and his wife Joan.
She is survived by her daughters; Karen Pfeil and husband John Ross of Pleasanton, and Carol Stokes of Katy; Her grandchildren; Jessica Pfeil and husband Charles Klemann of Pleasanton, Carolyn Hey and fiancé Travis Buckley of Katy, Chelsea Hey of Katy, and Cory Stokes of Katy. She has three great-grandchildren; Richard (Ricky) Klemann, Veda Hey, and Paislee Buckley. Doris is also survived by her sisters; Marion Day of Moulton, TX, and Wilma Ducho and husband Edgar of Gonzales, as well as by her brother Wilfred Wieting of Hallettsville.
Doris was truly one-of-a-kind and absolutely irreplaceable. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. We love you and miss you so much. You will forever be in our hearts and on our minds.
