Donate to Toys for Tots program

This year marked the inaugural year of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots community program in our area. The Atascosa County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4853, in Jourdanton, manages a satellite facility under the San Antonio Regional “Toys for Tots” program.

Our goal is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to the members of our community, specifically our children and to encourage them as responsible, productive, and patriotic citizens.

“Toys for Tots” is an official activity of the United States Marine Corps and a mission for the Marine Corps Reserve. This program started in 1947 in Los Angeles, California and expanded nationwide in 1948. Since then, this program has provided toys for needy children across the country.

Our mission with “Toys for Tots” is to collect new, unwrapped toys each year, and distribute them as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community where the campaign is conducted.

While the registration window for “Toys for Tots” assistance has closed, the toy drive continues. The program works to supply the toys through local donations to meet the local community’s needs. The ultimate success of this effort depends on the support from our local community and the generosity of the people donating the toys. Local business and community leaders play key roles by supporting the campaign and allowing us to locate drop-off/ collection boxes in their businesses.

Our performance as a charitable organization is rated as one of the top rated charities by “Philanthropy 400” and continues to meet all 20 standards established by the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance.

Currently, donation boxes are located at the following locations:

•All Jourdanton Schools

•Pleasanton Senior High School

•Best Bail Bonds

•Taqueria Jalisco, Jourdanton

•American Legion Post 436, Jourdanton

•VFW Post 4853, Jourdanton
