District football schedules to begin Friday for area teams

After six weeks of regular season preparation, Atascosa County high school football teams will begin their quests for the playoffs this Friday night.

District competition kicks off this week for Pleasanton, Jourdanton, Poteet and Charlotte, all of which have home games.

District 15-4A Division I

The Eagles continued their hot start to the season with a 28-7 win at Carrizo Springs on Sept. 29 to remain undefeated.

Pleasanton (5-0) is coming off its bye week and will host Rockport-Fulton on Friday. The Pirates (2-2) beat Hidalgo 65-0 in their last game Sept. 29.

The Eagles beat R-F 28-24 on the road last season.

Elsewhere in the district, Somerset hosts Beeville and Robstown will be at La Vernia on Friday.

The Bulldogs (4-1) and Trojans (4-1) split the district championship last year. Beeville won their matchup 42-28 in 2016.

District 14-4A Division II

Poteet (2-3) enters its opener with Pearsall after topping Sabinal 18-6 on the road Friday.

The Mavericks (5-0) had a bye week after running past Jourdanton 43-6.

Defending district champion Devine hosts Lytle and Crystal City will travel to Carrizo Springs.

District 15-3A Division I

Jourdanton (2-3) is coming off a bye after its loss to Pearsall on Sept. 29.

The Indians open with George West on Friday. The Longhorns enter Indian Stadium with a 5-0 record.

In other openers, Taft hosts Mathis and Goliad will play at Cotulla.

District 15-2A Division II

Charlotte (2-3) also had an open date prior to its district opener. The Trojans lost to La Pryor 6-0 the week before.

Charlotte will host Pettus (4-1), which had its four-game winning streak snapped Friday in a 57-6 loss to Corpus Christi John Paul II. A win for the Trojans would be a big step toward the postseason.

Falls City will open at home against Runge, and Louise hosts Flatonia.
