Deserving teachers presented with grants from the PISD Education Foundation

The Pleasanton Education Foundation handed out their teacher grant awards to recipients on Friday, February 13 and Monday, February 23.

The Education Foundation “Prize Patrol” was there to award the grants to the deserving teachers. The “Prize Patrol” consisted of Education Foundation Board Members, Dr. Matt Mann, Interim Superintendent, Board President, Coach Frank Tudyk and a group of the Pleasanton High School Cheerleaders and Drum Line. It was two great mornings of celebrations by the teachers and the students.

Five deserving Pleasanton ISD teachers received grants. They will be using these grants to fund projects and to buy materials and equipment for their classrooms. The following teachers received grants:

Debra Rzenik, a high school biology teacher, received a grant to fund an Aquaponic project entitled, An Ecosystem Balancing Act. She received $694.11 to help buy the materials for the project.

Lorene Tullos, Steve Brito, Yvonne Norman and Amanda Hardy, members of the High School Counseling Department received $2,500.00 to help fund scholarships for students.

Sharon Kotzur, Heather Arnold, Christopher Ramirez, Willa Walker and Janie Olivarri, members of the High School Art Department, received funds to help buy materials for their project, Art with Heart. The Art Department was awarded $1,060.72.

Donna Herschap, Mary Chapman, Kim Jackson, Rachel Draper, Stephanie Eichman and Allyson Reed, 2nd grade teachers at the Elementary, received funds to buy new iPads and cases for their classrooms. The project was entitled, Apples for Everyone, and the team received $2,689.92 to buy the new equipment.

Celia Chapa, a reading interventionist at the Primary, received $2,500.00 for iPads for Reading. She will be using these iPads in her classroom to improve students reading skills.

The teacher grant awards this year totaled $9,444.75.
