Recently hired Poteet City Manager Kim Davis joined the Poteet City Council for their regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 20. Davis, out of Hondo, was hired earlier this month to replace Bobby Buentello who served as the interim city administrator since August. To kick off the meeting, Davis addressed the council.

“Good evening Mayor and council,” Davis said. “Thank you for the opportunity first and foremost. I have my focus primarily on the financial standing of the city and looking at the challenges ahead.”

Beginning with the first agenda item, council member Rick Flores motioned to reappoint Mr. Salvador to continue serving as the City’s Representative on the Atascosa Central Appraisal District Board of Directors. The motion passed unanimously. Council member Nicholas Sanchez was absent from the first half of the meeting.

In discussion about the signatories, Davis recommended that one council member and one staff member sign each check. Mayor Denise Sanchez stated she didn’t trust any of the employees to sign the checks. Council member Candace Cantu motioned to have the council members and the mayor on the checking account. Council member Jeremy Fernandez seconded the motion. Council member Crystal Bautista abstained and Flores voted against. The motion passed 2-1.

On Monday, the council met to discuss and adopt the 2021-2022 Fiscal Year Budget. Flores motioned to adopt the budget. After a second from Sanchez, the budget was approved 3-2. Fernandez and Cantu voted against the motion.
