David Frank Prasifka, 58, of Jourdanton passed away Saturday July 4, 2020. He was born on June 21, 1962, in Pleasanton to Malvin and Marty Prasifka. David was a hometown boy through and through. Around the age of 16, David would help his dad out at their family’s shop (Alvin’s Garage) by sweeping the floors or doing some mechanical work, and he would also drive their tow truck to help out. David became a Jourdanton Volunteer Firefighter in 1988, and he dedicated 25+ years to being the best Fireman/ Chief the Fire Department could have asked for. David eventually retired from JVFD, but he never fully left the department. He would occasionally check on his fellow brothers and sisters in red. David met his beloved wife Donna in 1992, and after two years of dating, they married in January 1994. David had one son, Michael Prasifka, and Donna had three sons Derek, Ryan and Beau Thompson. Together they became a family of six. They quickly learned raising a big family had its challenges, but together they met those challenges. Their sons grew to men and married, blessing David and Donna with five amazing grandchildren. David adored his grandchildren and his wife. David worked for San Miguel Electric Coop. for 31 years, and after retiring from there, he decided he want- ed a new challenge and went to work for Atascosa County as the Emergency Management Coordinator. David always loved challenges, and he would always say “if it was easy everybody would be doing it.” David lived to help the community. When the COVID-19 pandemic shook the United States, he made sure to make everyone aware of its seriousness. He constantly worked day and night to help the community through this pandemic. Unfortunately, before we could completely make it out, he was diagnosed with Leukemia. He was receiving very aggressive treatment, but the treatment could not help him once COVID-19 entered his body. David was loved by the entire community and surrounding areas. He will be deeply missed by all, he was a wonderful person to know. There will be many stories to be told with him being the main character.
David is survived by his wife Donna Prasifka of 26 years; his son Michael Prasifka and wife Ronni “Tutti” Prasifka; sons Derek, Ryan and Beau Thompson; daughter-inlaw Mandee Gonzalez; grandchildren Isaiah Cantu, Hailey Thompson, Kristen Thompson, Lily Thompson and Ronny Prasifka; brother Rusty Prasifka and his wife Diana Prasifka along with their daughter Allison Prasifka; and sister Sandra Lucas and her husband James Lucas.
David is preceded in death by both his mother Marty and father Malvin.
There will be a celebration of life scheduled by the family at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to leukemia research at www.cancer.gov or coronavirus research.
