Jourdanton High School senior, Austin Darrow, who has also been ranked #1 in his class for the last six years, received a $220,000 Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Marine-option Scholarship from the United States Marine Corps. Only two other students in the area received this prestigious award, Liam Brennan from Champion High School in Boerne and Jessica Gonzales from John Jay High School in San Antonio.

Austin received the scholarship at a presentation held on Tuesday, January 15, at the George Gervin Health and Wellness Center. Many members of the JHS Band attended the presentation in support of Austin, who is also a Mighty Indian Band member.

Superintendent of JISD, Dr. Lana Collavo, High School Principal, Keith Chapman, High School Counselor, Marie Fanno and several members of Austin’s family were also in attendance at the presentation.

Former San Antonio Spur, George “Iceman” Gervin was the guest speaker at the event.

Austin will be putting this scholarship to good use as he will be attending the University of Texas at Austin beginning this fall.

JISD staff and students would like to acknowledge Austin for a job well done and good luck in all future endeavors.
