It is an unknown fact that there are many children in Atascosa County that need homes. According to Tanya Phillip Netardus of Child Protective Services in Jourdanton, approximately 120 children are in foster care in our county alone. CPS will be holding a foster care and adoption informational meeting on Thursday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Cowboy Fellowship located on FM 3350 in Jourdanton to inform people about becoming a foster and/or adoptive parent.
The meeting is open to the public and will be an informal event. Attendees are welcomed to come and go as they please. CPS will have a small presentation and will also have various foster care and adoption agencies from San Antonio in attendance to answer any questions as well as CASA of South Texas. People will have the opportunity to ask any and all questions about becoming a foster parent and/or adopting a child. Current foster parent, Abby Pawelek of Cowboy Fellowship will also be in attendance to talk about what it is like to be a foster parent from her own experiences, including what all goes into it. Atascosa County is in current need of foster and adoptive parents and what better time to become involved than during Child Abuse Awareness Month! April is all about spreading the growing issue of child abuse and CPS in Jourdanton wants the residents of Atascosa County to know they can help out by being informed about foster care and adoption. For more information, you can call Tanya Phillip Netardus at 830-570-2352 or the CPS office at 830-769-2855.
