Sixteen former Cowboys of the Years met last Wednesday at the Pleasanton Express office to select the 2014 Working Cowboy of the Year and the inductees into the South Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Nomination letters were read and three men will be honored at the Pleasanton Young Farmers’ Cowboy of the Year Open Rodeo and Festival on Friday, August 15.
The ceremony will be held prior to the open rodeo – the richest one in Texas – at 7 p.m. at the Atascosa County Showbarn Arena, 2209 West Oaklawn.
The Pleasanton Young Farmers will present the Cowboy of the Year with a saddle, donated by the Atascosa Livestock Exchange. The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce will give the cowboy a vest to be worn during the event and during the Pleasanton Cowboy Homecoming coronation and parade in October.
Each cowboy honored will also be given a framed certificate courtesy of the Pleasanton Express.
After the Friday night rodeo, singing sensation Natalie Rose will perform. On Saturday, August 16, Country favorite Mark Chesnutt will take the stage after the rodeo. Rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m.
There is also a barbeque cook-off and washer tournament that will be held during the day on Saturday.
