Last year marked the first time ever that Cowboy Homecoming and Turn N Burn came together for one fantastic event that brought thousands of people from all over to the Pleasanton River Park. This year, these two major events are back at it again together for another great year of memories to make with your family and friends on March 9 and 10. Free, fun, feasting and festivities are the biggest things to look forward to at this year’s event.

The Kids’Que Cook-Off Competition for kids ages 4-17 is back again this year and will kick off this year’s festivities on Friday, March 9 at 6 p.m. with set-up from 4-5:30 p.m. and judging at 7 p.m. Also starting at 6 p.m. is the Little Mr. & Miss Cowboy Homecoming Pageant. Following immediately after the pageant is the moment we have all been waiting for: the crowning of the 2018 Cowboy Homecoming Queen! Also available that night will be food booths, arts & crafts and more until 12 a.m. Friday night’s live performance will feature Pleasanton natives Wade, Adam and Preston Hill of The Hill Brothers with their traditional country music sound. There will be a $10 charge at the door.

Saturday will be the biggest and most fun-filled day for family and friends yet! Morning festivities will kick-off with the Pleasanton Express’ 39th Annual Wild Bill Cowboy Gallop 5K Run and 2 Mile Fun Walk at 8 a.m. at the Atascosa River Park. Bring out your lawn chairs and umbrellas for the 52nd Annual Cowboy Homecoming parade that is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Bryant St. and will end in the park. A Washers Tourney will also be held at 1 p.m.

Judges Needed

Do you have a passion for eating meat and tasty food? Think you have the guts to be a barbecue judge? Adults 18+ can sign up to be a judge for the Turn N Burn Cook-Off Competition on Saturday. Those interested should sign up at the judges’ tent by 10 a.m. Over 100 teams have entered the contest and work hard, but they need the support of the community to judge. Judging will take place at the small pavilion near the playground at 12 p.m. beginning with chicken followed by ribs at 2 p.m. and brisket at 4 p.m. It is said that officials will need anywhere between 400-500 judges to help determine the best of the best in each category. The Kids’sQue Competition taking place on Friday evening will also need judges to help determine the winners. Stop on by to support these cookers and all the hard work they put into competing.

The Kiddie Corral will be back again this year at the CH/TNB, hosted by the Pleasanton Express and sponsored by Dr. McFarland. Games of all kinds will be available FREE for all children ages 2-10 from 12-2 p.m. at the Atascosa River Park. Featured games are Longhorn Ring Toss, Crayola Corral, Sack Races and Photo Booth.
