“The State Comptroller allows businesses that pay sales tax to seek refunds when they find they overpaid,” said Atascosa County Auditor Ray Samson.
During Commissioners’ Court, Monday, October 8, it was noted that an oil company requested and was approved for a $839,402.93 refund. Samson said, “The state said to pay it. So, one of the items on the agenda sought approval and it is being paid.”
In February of this year, we did the same thing for $200K. The $1M budget amendment properly funds both the first payment and the second. They are two separate companies.
Samson mentioned, “The good news is that we are projected to collect $7.6M in sales tax this year, way above what we budgeted.”
