County Fair Saturday and Sunday




Bakers, canners, photographers, artists and animal lovers will enjoy entering and seeing others’ exhibits at the Atascosa County Fair this weekend.

The fair includes a Junior Prospect Show, where youth will preview their 4H and FFA animals in preparation for the annual stock show in January.

It also includes a Bake Show, Art Show, Photography Show and Crafts Show, three cook-offs and dance. The fair is being held Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7.

SATURDAY – OCT. 6

The Lamb & Goat Prospect Show check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. The show starts at 10:00 a.m.

Contestants for the Food/ Wine/Photography/Art/Crafts shows must turn in their items between 8-10:00 a.m. Judging should be over by 1:30 p.m.

Try your luck and buy bingo squares and play Donkey Doo Bingo. A $10.00 donation, 100 chances sold, will yield $500 to the winner and $500 to the scholarship fund.

DANCE

This year a dance will be held at the Poteet Strawberry Festival concert pavilion. Billy Hanson and the Lone Strangers will open for Zach Edwards Band. Concert gates will open at 6:30 p.m. with the Lone Strangers taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. Zach Edwards will start approximately 10:00 and will end at midnight. Admission is $10 at the gate.

Salsa, Chili and Bean Cook-off

New this year is a Salsa, Bean and Chili Cook-off. It is sponsored by the FFA Alumni. Entry fees are: $20 Chili; $10 Beans and $5 Salsa.

Check in time is from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. The entry deadline is 9:30 a.m. The cook’s meeting will be held at 10 a.m. All cooking is to be done on site. Turn-in times are: Salsa – 1:00 p.m.; Beans – 1:30 p.m.; Chili – 2:00 p.m.

The results will be announced after the judging.

No RVs will be allowed, canopies are acceptable.

SUNDAY – OCT. 7

Then on Sunday, October 7, the County Fair’s Prospect Show continues with the cattle. Check in begins at 8 a.m. with the show at 10 a.m.
