Coronado arrested at Atascosa River Park

Charlie Coronado, of Pleasanton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (PG1 methamphetamine in a drug-free zone), evading arrest, a county warrant for assault bodily injury family violence and a second county warrant for criminal mischief Saturday, June 4, at the Atascosa River Park.

Atascosa County Game Warden Derek Iden was checking fishermen on the swollen banks of the Atascosa River in Pleasanton when he noticed two men suspiciously walk away from their fishing gear.

The first Saturday in June is dedicated as Free Fishing Day, which allows anglers to fish without a license on that particular day.

“They said they didn’t have licenses and weren’t fishing,” Iden said when he approached the two subjects.

“I told them they didn’t need one and it seemed as if they didn’t believe me. I was checking for stringers along the river.”

Iden made contact with the individuals and one became aggressive.

“I asked him to empty his pockets,” he said.

“I noticed he threw a small baggie on the ground. I then asked him if it was meth and he said yes. I began to handcuff him when he evaded arrest.”

The Pleasanton Police Department quickly arrived as Coronado allegedly ran around the playground at the park evading Iden.

“He took his shirt off and ran from me,” Iden said.

“Pleasanton PD was on scene in no time and he gave up after that.”

Iden had assisted the Pleasanton Police Department with Coronado in the summer of 2015 for two charges of Burglary of a Building and Arson.

Coronado is currently in the Atascosa County Jail with bonds set for $24,000.
