Commissioners get good audit report for Atascosa County from Beyer and Co.

Present were all four commissioners, Lonnie Gillespie, (Precinct 1); William “Bill” Torans, (Precinct 2); Freddie Ogden, (Precinct 3) and Bill Carroll, Precinct (4).

After call to order of the Special Meeting of the Commissioners’ Court, Judge Bautista called on Wayne Beyer from Beyer and Co. to present a report of his audit for 2012. Beyer noted that Atascosa County debt is lower than many other governmental units. Also, that because of the County’s conservative budget practices, revenues exceeded budget and expenditures were less than budget. Beyer also noted that General Fund expenditures and reported reserves to be $11,513,874.00 at the end of the year.

Beyer, after presenting his audit for 2012 said that the financial statements of the county present fairly, in all material respects, the respective financial position of the governmental activities, each major fund, and the aggregate remaining fund information of Atascosa County, Texas as of December 31, 2012, and the respective changes in financial position and, where applicable, cash flows thereof, for the year ended in conformity with accounting principles generally in the United States of America.

Next on the agenda was a brief comment on the Budget Workshop.

On the agenda next Judge Bautista requested for appropriate action concerning Tax Rate and the scheduling of Public Hearing.

Hon. Judge Bautista said that proposed budget uses an effective tax rate for next year of $0.4166 per $100 valuation. As a result, the County’s tax rate for next year will be $0.1375 less than the current year.

The meeting was then adjourned.

Hon. Judge Bautista then reminded those in attendance that the next Regular Meeting of the Commissioners’ Court would be on Monday, September 9, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
